With Passion formed in the summer of 2002 from the ashes of various local Sacramento bands with its first line-up as Samuel McLeod on vocals, Shaun Gier and Jeff Morgan on guitars, Jacob Peete on drums, and Michael Nordeen on bass. They quickly made their mark on the Northern California scene, playing shows with a wide array of national metal and hardcore acts.
In late 2003 Jeff Morgan left the band. Andrew Burt took his place on guitar and Brandon Guadagnolo joined the band on keyboards. Shortly after, With Passion released their EP "In the Midst of Bloodied Soil" on Reflections of Ruins Records. The band soon after signed with Earache Records in October of 2004. The EP along with two additional tracks was then re-released in March of 2005. The band completed two full US tours following up the release of this EP, but then in the Summer of 2005 the band suffered a crippling loss when all members but Shaun Gier and Mike Nordeen quit the band to pursue personal interests.
Around this same time, a side project that Shaun Gier had been working on with former guitarist Jeff Morgan (Conducting From The Grave) also suffered a severe loss of members. With Passion took advantage of this and recruited the three remaining members of Conducting From The Grave to form its most solid line-up to date: Shaun Gier on vocals, Mike Nordeen on bass, Jeff Morgan and John Abernathy on guitars, and Greg Donnelly on drums. The band decided to drop keyboards in favor of a more technical, less melodic sound. With this line-up, With Passion completed another US tour in early 2006. In September 2006 Shaun Gier quit the band due to personal reasons.
In October 2006, with new vocalist, Fidel Campos (formerly of Cyanide Era and Severance), With Passion recorded their debut full-length "What We See When We Shut Our Eyes" at famed Mana Studio in Florida, home of Erik Rutan (Hate Eternal, Morbid Angel). Just a few short months later Mike Nordeen quit the band and joined The Human Abstract. Steven Lovas quickly filled the position as bassist and the band did two more US tours in anticipation of the release of the their debut full-length. “What We See When We Shut Our Eyes” was released in April 2007. Then in the summer of 2007 With Passion decided to disband. They came to the realization that the band name had been tainted by a reputation for losing members and that they were stuck in contract with a record label that was doing no more than the bare minimum for them. Greg, Jeff, and John decided to revive their previous project (Conducting from the Grave) and they brought Steven along with them to play bass. Most of the past members are still playing in various Northern California-based projects.
